Anchored Ministries, an Elverson-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, began as a result of months of prayer in 2016, by Ian and Erika Kanter to be God’s hands and feet. They had no idea what living a life of purpose, for the Lord, would look like or what that would entail. All they knew was that they wanted to help people and love them the way that Jesus calls us to.
Piece by piece, He revealed direction for their lives. In July of 2016, they began collecting clothing for, what they thought was, a one time collection and distribution. As Erika prayed for provision leading up to that distribution event, she clearly heard that this was in fact, not a one time event, and clearly saw what is now one of the Mobile Clothing Closets. During that initial event, they served hundreds of people in Reading, Pennsylvania. It was evident there was an unmet need, and that God was calling Ian and Erika to find a way to meet those needs.
Since that initial year in 2016, they have since acquired 4 trailers- 2 being solely Mobile Clothing Closets, outgrew their basement, garage, and shed that they had been operating out of, and moved into what is currently Anchored Ministries’ home base, next to Livingood park in Elverson, Pennsylvania. Anchored Ministries currently runs 11 different programs for the Twin Valley School District and beyond, in the areas of clothing, food and nutrition, and community, with the two Mobile Clothing Closets traveling throughout Lancaster, Montgomery Chester and Berks counties.
We’ve seen God move mountains, answer prayers, and use something as simple as an article of clothing, a bar of soap, or a packaged meal to show love, mercy, grace and hope.
Erika Kanter, Co-Founder
God has quickly grown this one time collection of clothing and keeping up with the growth can oftentimes feel overwhelming. However, it is partnerships from the community, businesses, organizations, families, schools, and churches that allows Anchored Ministries to continue meeting the needs in the surrounding communities.
You… were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
