Your Role as a Volunteer
As a volunteer, you play a vital role in ensuring the Mobile Clothing Closet operates smoothly. Your responsibilities include assisting visitors, maintaining organization, and supporting the Supervisor in setup and teardown. You do not need to know where specific items go—follow the Supervisor’s guidance for instructions.
Volunteer Responsibilities
Setup Assistance
- Help unload tables, clothing, and supplies from the trailer under the Supervisor’s direction.
- Assist in arranging tables and laying out clothing in an organized manner.
- Ensure all items are presentable and neatly displayed.
- Place shoes and accessories in designated areas.
- Set up the Prayer Request box and any additional materials provided by the Supervisor.
Engaging with Visitors
- Greet visitors warmly and make them feel welcome.
- Guide visitors through the process, ensuring they follow the designated flow:
- Enter through the rear ramp.
- Select clothing inside the trailer.
- Exit through the side door.
- Browse additional items on the exterior tables.
- Have their clothing bagged near the rear ramp.
- Assist visitors by answering questions and offering support.
- Be available to pray with or encourage visitors if they express interest.
- Ensure a smooth and respectful experience by managing the flow of people inside the trailer.
Specific Volunteer Roles
Gatekeeper
- Control entry at the rear ramp, allowing 1-2 people inside at a time.
- Engage with visitors waiting in line, offer encouragement, and answer basic questions.
Runner
- Assist visitors inside the trailer by holding or carrying items when needed.
- Communicate visitor names and clothing selections to the Folder.
Folder
- Receive clothing items and visitor names from the Runner.
- Remove hangers and place them in the Z-rack.
- Fold and bag clothing neatly, then label the bag with the visitor’s name.
Counter
- Use the provided counter to track the number of people visiting the Mobile Clothing Closet.
- Record the number of shoes distributed as instructed by the Supervisor.
Teardown Assistance
- Help pack up remaining clothing and supplies under the Supervisor’s direction.
- Remove tables and load them back into the trailer.
- Ensure all hangers are gathered and placed in the designated bins.
- Clean up the area, ensuring no clothing or materials are left behind.
- Follow instructions from the Supervisor on where to place items inside the trailer.

- Treat every visitor with kindness, patience, and respect.
- Maintain a welcoming and organized environment.
Encouragement and Connection
- Focus on building relationships, hearing visitors’ stories, and offering encouragement.
- If visitors are open to it, offer to pray for them or direct them to the Prayer Request box.
